Jeffrey Young

On November 30th, I respectfully ask for your vote in the Town of Kippens municipal election. During the past 2 years I have been advocating on your behalf to the town council. Now I want to sit at the table to ensure your concerns and ideas get to the table.

We live in a community that was once primarily Mi’kmaw. This community is where my ancestors from Unama’ki (Cape Breton) came to live and raise their families almost 200 years ago. This is the community where I choose to make my home and raise my family. Today, in 2021 we still have almost half of the community still identifying as Indigenous. I will bring the knowledge and traditions that I have learned to the council chambers, ensuring our Elders, residents and Ancestors are respected.

I have been heavily involved in non-profit organizations from a young age. I have served in diverse roles on nonprofit boards of directors, which ranged from economic development to early childhood education. On these boards I have learned what the needs are of the people in our community, and what it will take for us to move forward as a community.

Throughout my work and education primarily in the community, I understand what youth, families and seniors want and need in their community, to be active and engaged. Our town has so much to offer and much more can be brought forward, to improve our parks, trails and greenspaces. We need more recreational infrastructure and activities for all.

If you trust me with your vote, I pledge to serve as your voice on Council. Together, we can plan and build the best Kippens for the present and for the future.
