Cynthia Whelan

It is an honour to confirm my candidacy for the Logy Bay, Middle Cove, Outer Cove Town Council.

Who am I — I was born, educated and raised a family in this community and am proud to have done so. Our family, the Devereaux’s, have lived here well in excess of 100 years. My husband, children and I hold this place close to our hearts. It is the place we call home and our family away are proud to return here. In the case of my daughter she looks forward to her trips with her children to enjoy the sense of place that she comes from. I especially love to share the beaches, the walks and the breathing space that many people never experience in the way that we do.

It is very important to me that we continue to develop this community as it has historically existed; a rural community on the doorstep of the capital city; a safe haven that provides that sense of small town but also looks to the future. As a council our responsibility is to look for opportunities and new approaches to enhance the safety, security and well being of our residents. That comes through sound infrastructure, safe roadways, good recreational facilities and programs. I also support the development of a trail system for the wellness and enjoyment of our community.

As a retiree I finally have the time and the opportunity to use my enthusiasm, work experience and faith in this community to contribute in a more meaningful way.

I have been a Senior Facilities Manager with Memorial University for over thirty years. There I took pride in my role in delivering facilities services to what ultimately was a city within a city.

I am an accredited Facilities Officer with experience in budgeting, human resource management, labour relations, mediation/collective bargaining and leadership of an infrastructure support team. I have held responsibility for the Sea Water and Utility systems at the Ocean Science Centre, a university owned facility in our town.

I understand that regardless of who I am dealing with I am responsible to listen and try to understand all perspectives and to ensure that ultimately decisions are made that are fair, consistent and in the best interest of our town.

Please give me the opportunity to represent you. I take this responsibility seriously and will represent you to the best of my ability.

Congratulations to all those who have put their names forward in this election. Please take this opportunity and vote.
